IFWA’s program this year includes a high fashion runway show featuring international designers like Vietnamese prodigy Ivan Tran, Indian Designer Archana Kochhar, India’s first transgender designer Saisha Shinde along with local Australian, South Asian and African origin designers. A Sikh student on the campus of University of North Carolina Charlotte had to face harassment last week. He was handcuffed and detained merely for wearing a kirpan — a Sikh article of faith.
Such mistreatment of a Sikh student and gross ignorance displayed by the 76-year-old university about Sikhism shocked the Sikh community around the world. Sikhs have been part of the American social fabric for over a century. People on social media questioned the lack of understanding about Sikhism at the university, known for taking pride in its diversity.
UNITED SIKHS applauded the quick response from the university — as Chancellor Dr. Sharon L. Gaber issued an apology on the university website. We had written to the Dean of Students, Dr. Christine Reed Davis, seeking an apology for the misconduct that had taken place with Aman Singh. The apology from the Chancellor stated that they will use the incident “as a learning opportunity by engaging in constructive dialogue with Sikh students and employees”. It also stated that they “apologize”, that the student didn’t feel “welcomed, supported and safe” that day, as they wanted every student to feel so, further adding that they are “committed to ensuring it doesn’t happen again.”
UNITED SIKHS shared with them a Sikhism Fact Sheet. We also offered to provide sensitivity-training to the university staff and security, about Sikhism and Sikh articles of faith.
“Despite curt behavior by the police on the campus, Aman Singh was graceful, resilient and showed leadership — everyone should practice their faith freely and fearlessly,” Manvinder Singh, UNITED SIKHS Advocacy Director said.
“All institutions, particularly, universities that attract students and staff from around the world must have a mandate to sensitize students and staff about Sikhism and other world religions, cultures and traditions. It is essential to create a culture of co-existence to prevent incidents of racism and misconduct with students and members of any community,” he stated.
We appreciate the efforts of Sikh organizations around the world for raising their voice in this case and lending support to Aman Singh.

Prashant Gupta is an IT Solutions Architecture Manager by profession, lives in Texas with his small family, wife Rachna, sons Kartikeya and Harshil. He grabbed this opportunity on the strength of his ability through Star Maker while trying out for playback.
The team of Dadasaheb Phalke Film Foundation selects eligible and deserving singers by the party room created in Star Maker app and gives them at no cost a chance to do playback singing of songs of upcoming new film, album or serial in any recording studio in their own city. .

Not all heroes wear capes- in fact, they can even be a law enforcement official. This gentleman in question is immigration officer, Major Mohammed Ahmed Matar, who made it his mission to help a distraught Indian Expat’s family in the UAE even after his duty hours.
The Indian family had faced an emergency when the expat, his wife and child were travelling to India to visit the wife’s grandmother, who was in critical condition.
“We were rushing to the airport,” the expat stated. “All was going smooth during our check-in at Ras Al Khaimah (RAK) airport. But when we proceeded to the Immigration counter, we never expected the scenario that came in front of us.” The immigration officer at the desk explained the expat that his child’s visa had already expired, however, the expat believed that it was valid until the next year. This mishap resulted in the immigration team advising the distressed family to visit the Dubai office to sort the issue, and that they could not board the flight until the issue was resolved. However, the family did not believe that they could travel to Dubai and get back in time to RAK to board their flight.
As a last resort, the family travelled to Dubai to sort the issue. “When we reached the Al Tawar Office, the receptionist asked us to visit the main branch instead to solve the issue. Being absolutely exhausted from the day’s events, I requested her to help us in some way.” The family were then directed to a gentleman who was finishing his duties.
It was then that the patriarch explained his issue to Major Ahmed Matar, who actively listened to the man’s woes. “He went back to his office and came back out after a few hours, telling me that it would be solved, and that I could fly back home in the next 24 hours”, the expat stated. The family was relieved, but money was also an issue, given that the family of 3 they were not able to get a refund for their last flight.
“Now the issue was the money to buy tickets for all three of us to travel. As I was leaving the office, Major Matar pulled out his wallet and gave me enough cash to travel back home,” the expat said. “He is a real hero whom we cannot forget. He went beyond his duty hours to help us and discuss the issue personally.”
This scenario displays yet another heroic deed by the UAE’s exemplary government officials, who are the unsung heroes of the nation. The UAE continues to help expats all over the country, with an approach that is characterised by kindness, respect, and tolerance.

US State Senator, politician, lawyer and Vice-Presidential running mate Kamala Devi Harris has scripted history by being the first Indian-American or African-American woman to be appointed as the Vice-Presidential running mate.
It is a known fact that Kamala Harris has a huge support base in the Indian-American community. Indian-born Hollywood producer, philanthropist and serial entrepreneur Tel K Ganesan is excited at the power push for the senator as it “sends a message of hope to young girls of colour, and any immigrant, for that matter.”
Ganesan, who met Harris at Detroit, Michigan during her political run for the primary race of the Democratic presidential ticket, avers that Harris is “high energy, positive, upbeat and a bubbly person.” Ganesan had an instant connect with her. “We shared wonderful, happy moments. She is very friendly. It is much like talking to a friendly neighbour.” Both Ganesan and Harris’s mother Shyamala Gopalan hail from Chennai. “We very briefly spoke in Tamil – vanakkam and nandri. We did talk about sambar,” he grins.
Though Harris considers herself black, she has also spoken of her Indian roots. Harris has worked in international development around the world and return to live in villages throughout India in the mid-90s. Her matrilineal family of strong South Indian women has always been her inspiration. Her mother is a Tamilian from Chennai, and had moved to the US for higher studies. Her father is Donald Harris, of Jamaican descent. Ganesan is very proud of Harris’s achievement. “As an immigrant, it is a great inspiration. She already has a track record of breaking barriers. She started off as the first person of color in the office of the district attorney in San Francisco as a tough prosecutor and later as California Attorney General before winning the Senate seat four years ago. Harris is also the first person of Indian descent to ever get on the presidential ticket. Harris amassed more than $35 million over 11 months despite challenges that black women candidates face in raising money. If the Biden-Harris ticket wins, Harris will be the highest-ranking female US official in the country’s 244-year history. And it is not just that, Biden who would be 78 if he wins, might only serve a single four-year term, instantly making Harris a leading 2024 Democratic Presidential contender. She serves on several high-profile committees in the Senate including the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee.”
Ganesan believes that such a historic move is only possible in a country like the United States. “Hope fuels life and hope fuels opportunities. Ganesan, who met Harris at Detroit, Michigan during her political run for the primary race of the Democratic presidential ticket, avers that Harris is “high energy, positive, upbeat and a bubbly person.” Ganesan had an instant connect with her. “We shared wonderful, happy moments. She is very friendly. It is much like talking to a friendly neighbour.” Both Ganesan and Harris’s mother Shyamala Gopalan hail from Chennai. “We very briefly spoke in Tamil – vanakkam and nandri. We did talk about sambar,” he grins.
Though Harris considers herself black, she has also spoken of her Indian roots. Harris has worked in international development around the world and return to live in villages throughout India in the mid-90s. Her matrilineal family of strong South Indian women has always been her inspiration. Her mother is a Tamilian from Chennai, and had moved to the US for higher studies. Her father is Donald Harris, of Jamaican descent. Ganesan is very proud of Harris’s achievement. “As an immigrant, it is a great inspiration. She already has a track record of breaking barriers. She started off as the first person of color in the office of the district attorney in San Francisco as a tough prosecutor and later as California Attorney General before winning the Senate seat four years ago. Harris is also the first person of Indian descent to ever get on the presidential ticket. Harris amassed more than $35 million over 11 months despite challenges that black women candidates face in raising money. If the Biden-Harris ticket wins, Harris will be the highest-ranking female US official in the country’s 244-year history. And it is not just that, Biden who would be 78 if he wins, might only serve a single four-year term, instantly making Harris a leading 2024 Democratic Presidential contender. She serves on several high-profile committees in the Senate including the Intelligence Committee and the Judiciary Committee.”
Ganesan believes that such a historic move is only possible in a country like the United States. “Hope fuels life and hope fuels opportunities. This will address the bottom-line issue of under-representation of women and minorities on US public company boards and will match the changing demographics we are experiencing in the country today.”

He also added in Information Technology sector, Indian IT firms are also establishing business partnerships in LAC countries. श्री महिंदा राजपक्षे ने फिल्म के फर्स्ट लुक की तारीफ करते हुए कहा के श्रीलंका में अंतरराष्ट्रीय फिल्मकारों का स्वागत है वही फिल्म निर्देशक दुष्यंत सिंह ने इसे एक अविस्मरणीय क्षण बताया फिल्म की मुख्य अभिनेत्री कविता के मुताबिक या उनके लिए एक सपने जैसा है के उनके द्वारा अभिनीत पहली फिल्म का प्रमोशन किसी देश के राष्ट्राध्यक्ष के हाथों से हो रहा है । फिल्म की रिलीजिंग व प्रमोशन की तैयारियां बृहद रूप से अंतरराष्ट्रीय स्तर पर की जा रही है उम्मीद है यह फिल्म सफलता के नए आयाम लिखेगी .
वर्ल्ड आईकॉन अवॉर्ड्स प्रतिवर्ष विदेश में आयोजित किए जा रहे वर्ल्ड आईकॉन अवॉर्ड्स समारोह की श्रंखला में इस वर्ष भी श्रीलंका की राजधानी कोलंबो के ऐतिहासिक बीएमआईसीएच सभागार में समारोह का आयोजन भव्य तरीके से संपन्न हुआ अवार्ड में श्रीलंका के पूर्व राष्ट्रपति श्री महिंदा राजपक्षे बतौर मुख्य अतिथि मौजूद थे ।
कार्यक्रम के निर्देशक दुष्यंत सिंह ने बताया कि समारोह में तकरीबन 8 देशों की हस्तियों ने अपनी मौजूदगी दर्ज कराई कार्यक्रम में निर्णायक मंडल के सदस्य क्रमशः श्री अतुल मोहन श्री विभव तोमर श्री प्रदीप चांदीरामानी डॉक्टर रितु सिंह व अवार्ड की प्रतिनिधि डॉक्टर प्रतिमा तोतला मुख्य रूप से मौजूद थी । कार्यक्रम का संचालन बॉलीवुड हस्ती व निर्देशक दुष्यंत सिंह ने किया श्री महिंदा राजपक्षे ने कार्यक्रम की बेहद प्रशंसा की व वैश्विक तौर पर ऐसे कार्यक्रमों की निरंतरता पर जोर दिया कुल मिलाकर श्रीलंका की धरती पर या एक शानदार आयोजन था ।

A Secret Millionaire star and her estranged businessman husband have hired top barristers in ‘£100m divorce fight’. Wealthy interior designer Simrin Choudhrie and estranged husband Bhanu Choudhrie, who is the son of an Indian billionaire, are fighting in the Family Division of the High Court in London. Baroness Fiona Shackleton, who represented Sir Paul McCartney, Prince Charles and Monty Python’s John Cleese in their divorce cases, is fighting in Mrs Choudhrie’s corner. Nicknamed ‘Steel Magnolia’ for her resolute demeanour, Baroness Shackleton sits as a Tory peer in the House of Lords.
Mr Choudhrie, son of billionaire and major Lib Dem donor Sudhir Choudhrie, has hired Ayesha Vardag, a favourite among ‘ultra-high-net-worth- clients dubbed the ‘Diva of Divorce’.
The couple and their legal teams attended a preliminary hearing at the Royal Courts of Justice Family Division today.
Mr Justice Cohen said no detail of the private hearing could be reported.
Indian-British businessman Mr Choudhrie, 40, has global investments in healthcare, hospitality, banking, real estate, aviation and utilities.
Both he and his father have donated to the Lib Dems, while Mrs Choudhrie has worked as a campaign assistant for the party’s former deputy leader Simon Hughes.
She is now best known as an interior designer after boosting her profile in a 2010 appearance on reality show The Secret Millionaire, which saw her go undercover.
The Choudhries reportedly lived together in a £20million Grade II listed home in London’s Belgravia before their relationship soured.
Their divorce case was adjourned following today’s preliminary hearing.
